A recent PIVOT participant was released from prison during the COVID-19 pandemic after serving 18 years. She returned to a world completely different than anything she had previously experienced. After assisting with meeting her basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, PIVOT was able to support her in gaining a comfort level with today's technology including participating in workshops and preparing for virtual job interviews via Zoom. Today she has a job in healthcare, her own apartment, her driver's license and a car. While incarcerated, she held a leadership role in the institution's kitchen, and other inmates would hire her to prepare meals for special events such as birthdays. When she's not working in her healthcare job, she hosts pop up catering events to cook and sell meals within her community. Her long term goal is to open her own catering business. PIVOT has been honored to support her on her journey and so grateful for each donation that has made this work possible.
